Today was "one of those days".
You know, where you feel the stress and strain that accompanies a 13+ hour workday.
However, you don't have much to show for it.
It started with smiles, greeting kids, and waving to parents dropping their kids off at school.
Always a highlight to count on. It always gives hope, starting with kids.
12 hours later, feeling uncharacteristically despondent, I found the blue index card, the one that I was asked to fill out during today's observation, a class in mindfulness.
"Conducting an observation", I found myself doing the activity alongside the sixth graders.
Breathing. Small, subtle movements. Yoga. Bells. Lighting. And books.
And my exit ticket, which I had stashed inside my closed chrome book, the one I had used for my observation notes. At the request of the teacher,I had written on the index card:
2 Things I can do to stay focused:
Stand and incorporate small movements and stretching into daily practice.
Make sure to breathe - bring mindfulness- into daily practice.
Had I not visited this classroom today, I cannot be sure I would have breathed or stretched with any intention. And all it took was five minutes of my time, to feel my energy restored.
On my way out, I breathed again and thanked the teacher, even fist bumping a student, who had to stand next to the principal, so she could say she did yoga next to me.
And at the urging of the teacher, I added #3:
Breathe, a little more often.
